  1. What is your year and academic concentration?
Currently, I am a junior Marketing major with a Psychology minor at The College of New Jersey.
  2. Have you traveled abroad before? If so, where and for what purpose?
In my junior year of high school, I had the opportunity to travel abroad in Italy for about two weeks. I traveled with my high school Italian class, which also consisted of my best friends, and we visited Venice, Florence, and Rome. It was an unforgettable experience and it made me come to the realization that I definitely wanted to study abroad in college.
  3. Have you studied abroad before? If so, where and what did you study?
Besides the ESC Heidelberg program, I have not studied abroad before.
  4. Why did you choose the ESC Heidelberg program?
I chose the ESC Heidelberg program because something about it was different from the other study abroad programs. Most of the other study abroad programs I had seen were in major cities, such as Rome, London, or Madrid. What I liked about Heidelberg is that it is small enough that you can become very comfortable and feel at home here, while also having all of the benefits of living in a city. Heidelberg is great because there is always something new to explore here, but it is not as overwhelming and hectic as a large metropolitan area. In this program, I have the opportunity to get to know this very unique German city while also having the ability to visit larger cities and other countries on the weekends. At this point, I have been living in Heidelberg for almost a month and I have only been reaffirmed in my decision of choosing the ESC Heidelberg Program for my study abroad experience.
  5. What are you most looking forward to during your semester abroad program?
Personally, what I look forward to the most during my study abroad semester are my weekend trips to other European cities. Like I had mentioned earlier, prior to this program, Italy was the only European country I had ever visited. Growing up, I loved to learn about other European cultures and I hoped that one day I could experience them for myself. Going into this trip I already knew which cities I wanted to visit, and being the planner person that I am, I look forward to planning new trips every week. This semester I hope to visit as many cities as I can, and through these experiences, I hope to gain new perspective and memories for a lifetime.
  6. What are your interests and hobbies?
Some of my interests and hobbies include playing tennis, reading, and exploring new places with my friends. At The College of New Jersey, I have been a member of Student Government, the Student Ambassadors Program, and I am also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Since my arrival here in Heidelberg, my friends and I have enjoyed checking out the different shops around town as well as traveling in any way possible.
  7. Do you speak any foreign languages?
No, unfortunately, I only speak English – though I have taken language classes in both Spanish and Italian.
  8. What do you expect to gain from your semester in Heidelberg?
Overall, during this semester I hope to gain a new perspective on the world around me. Before this semester, I did not have much firsthand knowledge of European culture and lifestyle, and every day here I find myself learning something new about both myself and the world around me. As a college student, it can become very easy to become consumed with coursework as well as college culture and forget about the outside world around us. Through these new experiences, such as volunteering at the Patrick Henry Refugee Village, being a Social Media Ambassador for the ESC, and my own independent travel, I hope to be able to learn more about myself and the European culture.

  1. What is your year and academic concentration?
I am a sophomore at the University of The Incarnate Word. I am a communication arts major with a concentration in journalism as well as a photography and English minor.
  2. Have you travelled abroad before? If so, where and for what purpose?
I have traveled outside of the US before this but only to Costa Rica. It was for education and charity purposes.
  3. Have you studied abroad before? If so, where and what did you study?
This is my first time studying abroad.
  4. Why did you choose the ESC Heidelberg program?
I chose the European Study Center Heidelberg program because I had heard many wonderful things about. I researched the program and felt that this is somewhere I see myself thriving. It also helps that Heidelberg is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen.
  5. What are you most looking forward to during your study abroad program?
I am hoping that I gain more personal experience in getting out of my comfort zone while I am here. I very much enjoy putting myself out there and being open to new and exciting opportunities. I am really looking forward to all that Heidelberg and the study abroad program has to offer me. I surely will be taking full advantage.
  6. What are some of your interests and hobbies?
My main interest is more of a passion. For the past 6 years, I have been taking photos. I fell in love with photography from the first time I held a camera, my freshman year of high school. From competitions, being published in newspapers, and having the title of photo editor for 4 years. I have never felt more comfortable than when I am using my skill. What I hope to do with my photography in the future is to use it journalistically by reporting on global issues that people should know about. I am a firm believer that a picture really can be worth a thousand words and that is what I hope to accomplish with my work. I want to make a difference in the only way I truly know how to.
  7. Do you speak any foreign languages?
I mainly speak English but know some Spanish and I am currently learning German.
  8. What do you expect to gain from your semester in Heidelberg?
I expect to gain friends, opportunities, and most importantly I know I will gain memories that I will look back on for the rest of my life.
