Pre-Departure Steps

  • Do you already have your passport?
  • Is it valid until at least 6 months after the date you return home?
Information on how to proceed is available here: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/apply.html
Create a new or log in to your existing ESC student account.
Review your degree plan and meet with your study abroad advisor to get your selected courses pre-approved.
Don't forget to also select alternate courses, in case your first choice courses are not available.
Search for flights to Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) - Germany. Note: If you are departing from the US or Canada, you probably have to fly overnight and therefore need to depart 1 day BEFORE the program starts. Plan to arrive by 1pm. An aiport pick-up will be arranged for you.

Depending on availability, you may arrive earlier or stay later at the ESC for a special student housing rate upon request.
One of the many challenges for students going abroad is cell phone usage. Remember that using a smartphone while abroad is integral to maintaining your safety. It allows for language translation, walking directions and contact in case of an emergency.

One option that provides the most benefits is using a local SIM card with your phone. In order for you to use a German SIM card in your phone, it needs to be "unlocked." This can typically be requested with any cellular provider.
